"There is freedom in giving new purpose to old and dead things... I never realized what was possible until I started looking at the ground, in closets, in abandoned boiler rooms, and in dumpsters. I found life by looking where it left imprints, echoes, and residue."

I am a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, painting, illustration, and prop making, using found, traditional, and industrial materials. My images are story-driven, while my process is material-driven: I am drawn to the history, imperfections, physical qualities, and possibilities of a material, and the act of transforming it becomes a form of creative problem solving. The process itself is often meditative; as I work, ideas and associations surface unexpectedly, as though the physical act of making shakes loose thoughts that were already there. Across my practice, I return to philosophy, storytelling, mortality, duality, and the contradictions that make people and experiences difficult to define. I am especially interested in the idea that something can be more than one thing at the same time—funny and tragic, beautiful and grotesque, comforting and frightening, alive and dying. Humor and play often become ways of exploring these contradictions rather than resolving them.

My relationship with art began with my grandmother, Bracha Turner, an outsider artist who introduced me to art and made it feel accessible and tangible. My earliest museum visits and attempts at making art were with her, laying the foundation for a practice that would eventually lead me to the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, a B.A. in Digital Media from Tyler School of Art at Temple University, and an M.F.A. in Mixed Media from Queens College. My work in film and television as a prop maker and prop master has further shaped this practice, pushing me to develop a deeper understanding of materials, tools, fabrication, and process. I move between these worlds intuitively, following the story, listening to the material, and allowing the process itself to help me discover what I am trying to say.
